I love every single of my sessions, but I have to admit; this surprise NYC proposal has a special place in my heart. In the middle of Covid and stressful times, it was a much needed reminder that good things happen. After being locked in my apartment and not being able to shoot for weeks, it gave me a glimpse of what normal life felt again…. And witnessing the love that these two ladies have for each other just gave me hope.
An Engagement on a Private NYC Rooftop
Because of obvious reasons, Keely had planned her surprise proposal on her own NYC apartment rooftop. She had decorated it with a rug, poufs, candles, flowers and even a little ‘reserved’ sign to make it look like her own venue. (After receiving several large-sized Amazon packages at their home, her fiancée Christina was apparently wondering what was going on^^). The set up looked amazing and ended up being the perfect location while staying socially distant.
Taking Engagement Photos in the West Village
Even if it felt weird, we couldn’t not take advantage of the fact that their neighborhood was for once in a lifetime completely empty. We decided to walk the streets of the West Village; everything was closed and we didn’t see a soul. A gentle golden hour light (and these ladies’ love!) gave a nice warm feel to an urban landscape that would have been a bit cold otherwise.
A New York Moment Out of a Movie
At 7pm, the neighbors started to bang pots and pans to honor healthcare workers. Someone played Frank Sinatra’s “New York New York” from their window; Keely and Christina started to dance, and it gave me the chills. It really felt like one of those moments straight out of a movie. It made me so damn grateful to live here… Only in New York could you feel so much love and beauty in a middle of a pandemic.
Keely, Christina and I shared a moment that we will probably never forget. And as good news never come alone, their story has since been featured in How They Asked by the Knot!
