I shot Alexis and Dan’s engagement photos last year, so when they called me to capture their industrial chic wedding upstate New York, I was pumped. We had so much fun the year prior that I knew it would be an amazing celebration. We had kept in touch the whole time since their shoot, which always makes photographing weddings even more special. There’s no better scenario than engagement photo clients who become friends and ask you to shoot their wedding.
A warehouse wedding upstate New York
Their venue, the Garnerville Arts Center, was a dream. I mean, you can’t go wrong with those exposed brick walls and string lights everywhere. The industrial complex built in 1838 also had lots of funky art everywhere. I especially liked the room where the bride got ready, with its large windows letting in so much natural light.
First Look & Bride and Groom Photos
Alexis and Dan had their first look outside, tucked between the two parts of the property. There were a lot of emotions flying at that moment. After planning the wedding for so long, I feel like that’s when it became ‘real’ for both of them. One of my favorite photos is the one when they snuggle forehead to forehead, with Alexis’ little tear running down her cheek.
It’s a hard choice to make, though; all their bride and groom photos were pretty epic. Despite a cloudy weather, we had a couple rays of sunshine during their portraits and took advantage of all the nooks and crannies of the venue. We even found a secret library!
Wedding ceremony followed by a big party
The initial plan was to have the ceremony outdoors, close to their first look location. But as we were watching the weather we saw it could rain at that time (and boy it id), so decided to move it inside. Thankfully the complex had many warehouses so we found the perfect spot and added some string lights to make sure photos wouldn’t be too dark.
After that, Alexis and Dan threw one of the most incredible receptions I’ve ever witnessed. Everyone danced like it was 1999 and after dinner it quickly became a gigantic party. At some point they followed their brass band outside, carrying personalized umbrellas that ended up being the perfect props to end their industrial chic wedding in New York.
This was my last wedding of the season and all I can say is I left on a high, high note 🙂
