During my last trip to California I had the chance to photograph Victoria and Jordan, both in their beautiful home in Stevenson Ranch and outside on a hiking trail nearby. I’m obsessed with the golden hues of a Los Angeles canyon mixed with various shades of green, making it a perfect location for an engagement session.
Starting Our Engagement Session at Home
I always like to start shooting couples at home; it lets me to see a little bit of who they are first, and it usually makes them more at ease to shoot in the comfort of their own home. “Comfort” here is actually the appropriate word: I hadn’t seen a house that big in a while (I mean, I live in NYC. Duh).
Taking Engagement Photos on a Los Angeles Hiking Trail
We then headed towards Towsley Canyon hiking trail and got lucky enough to have a nice golden hour. Victoria and Jordan take dance classes together, and they were prompt to show me their moves. I always, always like a dancing couple because they know how to bring movement into shots. Nobody wants stiff poses in their engagement photos!
Shooting at Blue Hour
Before the sun disappeared behind the mountains, this gorgeous Los Angeles canyon let us finish our engagement session with a few minutes of blue hour; with the moon even peaking up in the sky. If that’s not California magic, I don’t know what is 🙂
