There’s something special about taking your engagement photos at home. No distractions, no crowds—just two people, their love, and the space they’ve built together. Susan and Ross wanted their session to feel natural, intimate, and creative. And that’s exactly what we captured.
They Show Who You Are
In-home sessions are great because they show your personality. Susan and Ross often make cocktails together in their kitchen, so we did just that. When you do a regular activity, chances are everyone is more comfortable right away and the photos are more natural-looking. Plus, no need to overthink your poses; you know what to do, instinctively.
They’re More Authentic
Susan and Ross have the habit of putting on old vinyl records and snuggling on the couch. We simply recreated that and captured the magic; nothing felt forced.
Ross is also into film photography, so he pulled out his vintage camera and started taking photos of Susan. She laughed, posed, and played along, making for some fun and creative moments. It felt like a mix of an engagement session and a behind-the-scenes look at their life.
The end of day light was creating some cool pockets of light and shadows; my absolute favorite to play with. Another perk of shooting at home; you don’t need to worry about weather 🙂
Why I Love Shooting at Home
Shooting at home allows me to focus fully on the couple, without worrying about backgrounds, locations or other people. It’s raw, real, and deeply personal. And when I vibe with my couple, like I did with Susan and Ross, the creative energy flows perfectly. Everything clicks; it lets me slow down and try new things (playing with blinds, or doing a double exposure for example).
If you’re considering taking your engagement photos at home, go for it. In a time when documentary style photos are all the hype, your space tells your story in a way no other location can.
